MSI GT70 Dragon Edition 2 to be first laptop with Haswell
Say hello to the new future king of portable kick-ass. MSI unveiled its latest line-up of notebooks and laptops before the start of Computex, one of the largest Taiwan-based computer and technology fairs in the world. And this line-up is pretty impressive, to say the least.
Of particular note, MSI managed to stuff the newest Haswell CPU as well as the newest NVIDIA GTX780M into a laptop with a 17.3-inch screen. And as we all know, laptop variations of hardware are usually about 50% slower than their desktop counterparts, which makes the next piece of information all the more impressive: MSI claims that it has a 3DMark Vantage score of 36,000 – putting it on par with a desktop with a Core i5 processor and a NVIDIA GTX670.
Other notebooks in this new line-up include the MSI GS70 Stealth. It also boasts a Haswell CPU, and a slower (but still powerful) NVIDIA GTX765M. What this model sacrifices in speed, however, more than makes up for in aesthetics: at 17 inches, it weighs only 2.9 kg and is only 21.8 mm thin. This makes it lighter and slimmer than the Razer Blade, which is 2.99 kg and 22.4 mm thick.
MSI has yet to release the prices of these two laptops, but given MSI’s reputation for powerful laptops on a budget, one can expect reasonable prices for laptops this powerful. Further information will likely be released during Computex, which will run from June 4th to June 8th.
